“How can I be expected to turn my whole damn life around?”

“A version of Going Down has been floating around for years. I think it’s the first song we ever wrote. We almost forgot about it. I remember Ian sending me clips of him playing it over Snapchat, but it sounded a lot different. It was slower. We took it and made it into this much faster, 90s skate-punk style song. I wanted to keep it high energy. It’s the kind of song you’d go looking for in a band like Joyce Manor or something.”

“Going Down”

Lit up by the moon in the middle of the night

And oh God I never noticed that your eyes were so bright

And the sand in our shoes will tell them where we’ve been

But the answer to our story is that it has to end

And all I thought was who

Who am I to be one

The one who gets to be here with you

And oh, oh, oh, oh

Going down, going down

How can I be expected to

Turn my whole damn life around

Well if I am lost well then let’s call it love

Because I’d slit my throat rather than just slip up

And I’m lost at the bottom of this bottle

With this noose tightened harder

Around my collar

So close your eyes and count to ten

Yeah, it’s a problem, I can’t make amends

I’ll lose all my loved ones before the night ends

And oh, oh, oh, oh

Going down, going down

How can I be expected to

Turn my whole damn life around
